Girlyman has signed with Daemon Records!
A list of frequently asked questions:
(08/01/2004)
Have you guys sold out?
Totally.
Honestly, don't you guys have some kind of commitment
to being independent or something?
Indeed. We've been very impressed by Daemon's commitment
to the independent spirit. This is an age where buying a t-shirt
involves complicity in the inequalities of a globalized economy,
and the folks at Daemon clearly make business decisions with this
kind of issue in mind.
Why did you decide to sign with Daemon?
To be honest, we really liked putting out CD's on our
own. This was not a decision we entered into lightly. It was just
that there started to be more work than the three of us and our
manager could get done on our own. We feel that working with Daemon
will help us to get our music out into the world more effectively
and consistently. Plus, they're really fun people to work with.
Why is Daemon "nationally" releasing your first CD, Remember
Who I Am? Didn't you already release it?
We initially released Remember Who I Am on our
own, selling copies at our shows and from our website, etc. In
less than a year, we've been thrilled to have sold as many as we
have. Still, we believe, as we said above, that Daemon has better
resources than we do for getting our music out there. We still
love Remember Who I Am dearly, and It's important to us
that people get to hear it. Plus, working with Daemon will give
us the opportunity to devote most of our energy to making the music
itself.
How do you guys feel about this?
Are you kidding? We're beside ourselves with joy! Nate's
peeing in his pants, Ty's become semi-catatonic, and Doris - well,
let's just say it's taken several months of intensive therapy to
get the grin off of her face.
Amy Ray is one of the Indigo Girls. Didn't your press
materials used to describe you as "the Indigo Girls getting together
with Paul Simon and creating Peter, Paul & Mary"?
Yes. Having met the Indigo Girls, we are no longer in
the mood to pair them up with Paul Simon, or anyone else. They're
too cool for that. Anyway, that description always confused us,
although we considered it a vast improvement over our previous
tag-lines: "Imagine Paul & Ringo were actually women, and George & John
were one person" and "Imagine the Mamas and the Papas, but without
one of the Papas".
Uh-huh. Is it true the CD packaging will be made from
recycled materials?
Yes. Remember Who I Am's packaging will be made
from recycled materials, and we hope to do the same for the second
CD.
So there will be a new CD coming out soon?
Yes! We've scheduled recording for the fall of 2004, and
plan to release our (as yet untitled) second CD on Daemon in the
spring of 2005. We'll be sure to keep everyone on our mailing list
updated - sign up if you want to get cutting-edge, up-to-the-minute
details (actually, it's a monthly newsletter).
Where can I find out more about Daemon Records?
At http://www.daemonrecords.com.
You guys are so cool. How do you do it?
Carrot juice. Lots and lots of carrot juice.
