Well, our northeast tour just started a few days ago but I'm already feeling the tone of it--calm, but full of new and somewhat wild energy. Maybe it's the fact that we've started playing some new songs. Once again, I couldn't have guessed what was next for us musically after Joyful Sign, but here it is. It's funny how after recording an album you just think you'll never match it, but then something different happens. And I think the move (Nate & I to our own places in Atlanta, Doris to her own place in Brooklyn) has something to do with the something different that appears to be happening now. The audience support has been beautiful too--I guess there's always that fear that you'll be booed when you change--like when Dylan went electric.
I was talking to Vincent at the Mauch Chunk Opera House after we played last night and he said "It sounds like you've grown musically" or something like that, and I said "Well, it's a good thing, because otherwise we'd get bored!" And it's really true. I'm feeling very blessed to still be in Girlyman because it still feels like an alive and evolving mass consciousness of three--a three-headed monster on a mission with a good therapist. There's something to be said in this strange world for just looking straight ahead at what's in front of you and enjoying it. Right now I'm enjoying the fact that this morning was unexpectedly Daylight Savings and I had an extra hour to make coffee and blog! See you out there.
